Out for Delivery is a shipment status update that indicates a package has left the courier’s local delivery hub and is currently with the delivery agent for final delivery to the customer. It is one of the last stages in the shipping process before the order is successfully delivered.
In eCommerce shipping, the “Out for Delivery” status helps customers know that their parcel is expected to arrive on the same day or within the scheduled delivery window. During this stage, the shipment is assigned to a delivery executive who follows the delivery route and attempts to deliver the package to the customer’s address.
This shipping status is important because it improves shipment visibility and customer communication. Customers often track this update closely to prepare for order acceptance, especially for COD (Cash on Delivery) orders. Businesses also monitor out-for-delivery shipments to reduce failed deliveries, improve delivery success rates, and provide better customer support.
If the delivery attempt fails due to customer unavailability, incorrect address, or other delivery issues, the shipment may move to an NDR (Non-Delivery Report) status. Proper delivery coordination during the out-for-delivery stage helps improve customer satisfaction and ensures smoother last-mile delivery operations.
