Dead Weight

"Dead weight" refers to the actual physical weight of a shipment as measured on a weighing scale, without considering its dimensions or space occupied. It represents how heavy the package truly is in kilograms or grams.

In logistics, couriers compare dead weight with volumetric (dimensional) weight to determine the billable weight. The higher of the two is used for pricing. For compact and dense items, dead weight is usually higher, while for bulky but lightweight packages, volumetric weight may apply.

Accurately measuring dead weight before booking helps in estimating correct shipping costs, avoiding discrepancies, and ensuring smooth processing during pickup and transit.
