Volumetric weight is the calculated weight of a package based on its size, not its actual heaviness. Couriers use it because a large, lightweight box takes up as much space in a vehicle as a heavy one.
Formula: Volumetric Weight (kg) = Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 5000 Example: A shoebox measuring 30 × 20 × 15 cm has a volumetric weight of 1.8 kg—even if the shoes inside weigh only 500 grams. You'll be billed for 1.8 kg, not 500 grams.
